Velvet Bustle Era Dress
From the seller:
Beautiful early 1880s rust velvet 2-piece dress features bodice with 4 long panels falling over the skirt. From the shoulder to the hemline of the panels is 54". The waist is 24" and the bust is 30" (my form has a 34" bust and I couldn't button the bodice...I took a photo of it buttoned laying down flat so you can see how it buttons...the buttons are 1 1/4" covered with same fabric. None are missing.) The bodice is boned with a stand-up collar. The sleeves are 21" in length, and the bodice measures 14" across the shoulders in the back. The skirt measures 42" long and 27" in the waist. The waistband needs a repair in one place where it has split. The fabric is strong and repairable. The bodice is embellished with intricate black jet beading ata the shoulders, hip, and sleeve. THe beading is strong with very little loss. The skirt is full in the back with some remaining bustle straps. Overall, this dress is in exceptional condition for its age and is very wearable for some tiny person....and is a beautiful display piece.
I'd say late 1880's almost bordering on the very early 1890's. However, it is a very interesting piece.
