Mid 1860's Green Dress

Offered for study, a fashionable original circa 1865 lady's moss green silk taffeta two piece dress with a sweeping skirt. Lined and stayed, with a V back construction, drop shoulders to the coat sleeves, piped at the armscyes, a box pleated front and a double box pleated back to the waistband, a bobbin lace collar, tassel buttons to the front closure of the bodice, larger tassels to the sleeves and skirt, with aquamarine accents stripes having lace edges, a matching belt with rosette, and a deep crinoline facing to the hem. Shown over a hoop skirt that is not included. 17" from shoulder to shoulder, a 33" bust, 24" waist, and 53" from shoulder to front hem. Recently de-accessioned from a New York State museum with a 1971 accession numbered tag still attached. Offered for study, in presentable condition, with overall wear and fray to the accent stripes, scattered flaws to the lace trim, a resewn button hole, wear to the lace trim, some splits to the creases of the hem, a few small age flaws and spots from normal use, some reinforced seams, loss to the crinoline facing, and some larger piecing to the skirt at the back that is incorporated in the construction of the the skirt. All is reflected in the reserve price for this original end of the Civil War era dress.
