1867 Wedding Gown

A beautiful 1867 ivory silk wedding dress that was worn by Jane Watt Scott on September 12 1967 when she married Quincey A. Scott. Her wedding stocking and lace hankie are also included. The bodice sleeves are decorated with puffed white satin on the top and on the sleeve cuffs. The puffed satin is decorated with silk fringe. The bodice is lined with cotton and has a front hook and eye closure. The large ivory silk buttons are decorative. The neck, armscyes and waist are piped. The dress comes with a separate center back peplum belt. The belt is trimmed with silk fringe. The skirt is fully lined with cotton. The dress is in very good condition. There is no underarm discoloration and no splits or holes in the fabric. There is some scattered age spotting and light soiling on the hemline that can be seen in the photos. The largest age mark measures 2 ½ inches. The stocking are in good condition. There is one small pencil tip size hole and some age spotting. The hankie is in fair condition. It has some small holes in the center cotton section and a few small holes in the lace. A wonderful display ensemble with great documentation. Bust 32 Waist 24 Front skirt length 39 Back length 51 Width at hemline 160.

Hi new people! And Thanks, Claire! I'm glad a lot of people are finding this rather insane blog useful when doing historical fashion research. So new people, a) I love comments; b) I try to answer comments (I'm getting better about it, honestly!); c) Ever once in a while I will get snarky (there is only so much I can hold back with Titanic Wedding Bustle Renaissance Dress as a title); and d) I'm pretty horrible anymore about posting at any set time. I *love* that there is an actual note with this one. This baby was first worn on September 12, 1867. It gives the bride's age as well.

I also like those sleeves! Aren't the tops just cute? And who doesn't love a bum bow when it looks like that? A stunning wedding gown, all and all.
